About Loranne
Loranne Ausley is serving in her fourth term in the Florida House of Representatives. Her district includes most of Tallahassee and a part of adjoining Jefferson County. She is an attorney with over 20 years of public service at the State and Federal level.
Ausley’s legislative agenda has focused around the issues that are important to Leon and Jefferson Counties: protection of state employees and state jobs; economic development; healthcare; and education, particularly early childhood initiatives. She has worked on these issues both in the legislature and in her community becoming known statewide as a “Champion for Children.”
Ausley’s leadership of the 2006 Florida Children’s Summit led to the introduction of legislation to create a Children and Youth Cabinet. Today, Rep. Ausley proudly serves as one of two legislative Members on the Cabinet which was signed into law by Governor Crist.
For the past 5 years, Ausley has actively chaired Whole Child Leon, a local community-wide initiative focused on improving the lives of all children ages 0-6. In addition to numerous other community and civic activities, she is also committed to downtown revitalization of the Capital City, including the restoration of the historic Waterworks building and the long awaited opening of Cascades Park.
Ausley is a member of Leadership Florida’s Class XX, and has served as a Leadership Florida Board Member and Regional Chair. In 2003, she was selected as one of the Democratic Leadership Council’s “100 to Watch”, and in 2007 was named to the inaugural class of DLC fellows which includes 25 elected officials from across the country.
Ausley has received numerous awards and recognitions from local and statewide organizations including the 2007 Stepping Up for Children Award (Florida Children’s Services Councils), the 2005 Champion for Children (Early Childhood Association of Florida). She was named the 2005 Legislator of the Year by the Florida Association of Healthy Start Coalitions, the 2003 Legislator of the Year by the Florida School Board Association and the Florida Association of School Psychologists, and received the 2005 and 2003 Outstanding Legislator Award from the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council.
Ausley received her B.A. degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, and her law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law. She is married to local attorney Bill Hollimon, has a son Will and a step-son, John. She is a marathon runner and triathlete, and in November 2007 she completed her first full Ironman competition in Panama City, Florida. In January, Gulfwinds Track Club named Ausley the 2007 FEMALE RUNNER OF THE YEAR.
Representative Ausley serves as the ranking Democrat on the Health Care Council. Other legislative committees include Policy and Budget, Energy, and Ethics and Elections.
